I was having a talk the other day with a friend of mine who write quite often for entertainment to get preparation for this upcoming event, NaNoWriMo. this will be my first year trying this out and I have never really had any talent with writing and have always had issues dealing with spelling and the like. Anyways, my friend was talking about a method to try to use to write, teh main part I was hoping to learn is how to get started up to an outline.
He wrote that a process that quite a few writers like to use is in a way take on five personalities in teh following order: The Madman, the Architect, the Builder, the Lawyer and the Judge.
The Madman would be the stage when you are writing down EVERY idea that comes to mind, no matter how crazy and stupid, and getting it down on paper. He expressed to me that stupid ideas could lead into good ideas.
The Architect is the person who sorts out the garbage and organizes everything else. You would make it pretty and have an outline and plan for the main events, or even detailed if you so wished it.
“The Builder is figuring out how to make it work, Theory/Application”. This seemed a bit odd, but seemed to me to be about connecting events and what would be required to have the events happen.
As the Lawyer you would scour your work and argue both sides. Finally as the Judge you would simply decide if the pros out way the cons.
I wrote all of this to get your input on this method and to as you: What method do you use in planning, or do you prefer to go in and ride the waves as they come.
